We will pick you up at the hotel before 9:30 am. You can travel by private van (in summer) or on foot (in winter) to search for wild Yangtze finless porpoises in the Yangtze River. It is estimated that there are around 70 of these porpoises in the entire Nanjing section of the river. The areas where porpoises are spotted vary with the seasons. However, when the time and location are just right, it's not difficult to catch sight of these captivating creatures. Along the way, we'll also share knowledge about the porpoises with you and may visit a science education venue depending on the season and the destination of our trip. During the journey, you'll also be able to spot some waterbirds on the river, such as the black kite, night heron, and little egret.
Next, we'll head to distinctive birdwatching spot in Nanjing. The specific location and target bird species will differ based on the season of our trip. Nevertheless, we guarantee that in the afternoon journey, we'll pursue at least one rare and special bird species. These might include the great barbet (in spring), pheasant-tailed jacana, cotton pygmy goose, and gray-headed lapwing (in summer), the fairy pitta (also in summer), or the reed parrotbill (in autumn and winter), among others.
