Departing from Nanjing, we'll make our way to Tongling City in Anhui Province, which is located nearby. Tongling is home to an important ex-situ conservation area for the Yangtze finless porpoise. We guarantee that you'll have the opportunity to see these porpoises up close and observe the conservation staff feeding them. After enjoying a special lunch at the conservation area, we'll visit a quaint ancient town in southern China, which will serve as the finale of our trip.
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Nanjing at 6:30 a.m. and drive for three hours to reach the Tongling Conservation Area. First, we'll visit a specimen exhibition hall that features specimens of the extinct baiji dolphin and Reeves shad, as well as skeletons and embryos of finless porpoises. Then, we'll head to the porpoise-watching platform at the conservation area, where we'll wait for the porpoises to approach and watch them being fed. Please note that this is part of the daily routine at the ex-situ conservation area and not a special show for tourists. If time permits, we'll drive you to see the natural habitat of the finless porpoises in Tongling.
At noon, we'll have a special lunch at the conservation area. In the afternoon, we'll tour Datong Ancient Town, a charming southern Chinese town with minimal commercialization. It retains its rustic charm, with most buildings dating back decades or even centuries, exuding a classical atmosphere from the Republic of China era or even the Qing Dynasty.
After the tour, we'll drive back to Nanjing at around 3 p.m. and arrive at approximately 6 p.m., concluding the entire trip.
